iPad over life? . . .smh

The following video is a social experiment held by a man named Alex Jones. I highly respect and take in the work this man does exposing secrets and not being afraid of releasing truth to the general public.

In this experiment he “tortures” and iPad. The purpose is to make a statement addressed towards the value of human life. He shows how many people will be immensely upset by this destruction of technology which is an inanimate object but do not hold the same value for living organisms and their fellow mankind.

The purpose is not so say technology is bad. The purpose is to show that we need to discern the weight certain things hold in our lives. Respect your fellow man.

Inspiration of the Week – Nas

So this week’s inspiration is rapper, performer, poet, and actor Nas.

Born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones on September 14, 1973, Nas is an inspirational, and motivational lyricist and entertainer. Born and raised in Queens, New York City he is the son of jazz musician Olu Dara. Even though he dropped out of middle school, he managed to attain a high degree of literacy which is prominent in his lyrics. His debut album Illmatic, was released in 1994 on Columbia Records and became critically acclaimed. For all “true” Hip Hop fans, this will always be a classic musical work of art from our culture.

Nas was also a part of Hip Hop super-group named “The Firm” which included Nas himself, Foxy Brown, AZ andNature, who served as a replacement for Cormega after he was ousted from the group. The production came from Dr. Dre, and the Trackmasters team. Although the group received initial hype and high expectations from fans upon their formation after collectively signing to Dr. Dre’s Aftermathlabel, The Firm’s debut album, “It Was Written” generated disappointing sales and generally negative criticism. The album, which featured predominant mafioso rap-themes and production from Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters, was criticized for its mainstream, pop-orientation. Their debut album was the group’s only release and it subsequently disbanded in 1998 with each member continuing their solo careers.

Nas continued to release “I am . . .” and “Nastradamus”. In 2001 he released Stillmatic and had a HUGE rap beef with Jay-Z. After that heavily publicised drama, he continued by releasing “God’s Son”, “Street Disciple”, and then “Hip Hop is Dead”. This all lead up to his latest release which was originally supposed to be named “the N word” but become “Untitled” due to the controversy it stirred up.

Throughout it all Nas has stuck it out always challenging his listener with clever flows and a huge knowledge of history with usage of various poetic elements and a vocabulary that expands one’s mind. He consistently pushes the boundaries of society and to us he really represents intellectual freedom which is a HUGE thing here with Lethal Inspiration. I came up listening to Nas, and a lot of the concepts from this brand would likely be non-existent if it wasn’t for ideas I learned from young that were posed in his songs.

To close this post I would like to leave you one of my personal Nas favorites from the Album “God’s Son” entitled “Mastermind”. Download from this link and give a listen

Inspiration of the week – Siddhartha

Here at Lethal Inspiration we consider ourselves to be a school of thought, meaning that we have a mentality that we promote as a way of living.

So this week’s Inspiration of the week is Siddhartha Gautama or the man later known Buddha. For those of you who don’t know his original intentions was not to start a religion. So with that in mind see this example of his life and see how we it will relate to our brand in the years to come. . .

Born at about 583 BCE,in or near what is now Nepal, Siddhartha was born into the family leading a large clan named the Shakya. At a few days old, a holy man prophesied that Prince Siddhartha would be either a great military conqueror or a great spiritual teacher. Since his father preferred the first outcome, he prepared his son accordingly by keeping him in great luxury and shielded him from the knowledge of religion and human suffering. By the age of 29 Siddhartha had little experience of the world outside the walls of his palaces.

One day he became curious and asked a charioteer to take him on a sees of rides throughout the countrysides. On these journey’s he became shocked with what he saw. He saw an aging man, a sick man, and a corpse. These realities sickened Siddhartha and he began seeking out renowned teachers, who taught him about the many religious philosophies of his day as well as how to meditate. He still had many doubts and questions.

Here he sought out finding release from suffering through physical discipline, enduring pain, holding his breath, and fasting nearly to starvation with 5 other companions. He was still not satisfied! It occurred to him that in renouncing pleasure he had grasped pleasure’s opposite which is pain and self-mortification. He realized there had to be a middle ground and/or balance to life.

He remembered an experience from his childhood, when his mind had settled into a state of deep peace. The path of liberation was through discipline of mind. He realized that instead of starvation, he needed nourishment to build up his strength for the effort. But due to this acceptance for food his companions abandoned him feeling that he had abandoned their cause.

After that he went through something known as his enlightenment while sitting under a fig tree. After a long time of reflection and discernment he came to the point where he needed to teach people what he learned. Although he felt that what he learned needed to be lived out on each’s own accord he tried to bring people to what he learned through things called “the 4 noble truths” and the “8 fold path”.

Understand these small things . . . Do no evil – Cultivate good – Purify your mind

Lethal Inspiration – A School of Thought

Squeaksz and me just had a conversation and he said . . .”When you’re a kid you use and abuse. Once you’re over that you learn that abusing is bad. You reach a next level after getting back on the right path and you use without abusing. Overall you learn maturity and moderation”

Inspiration of the Week: Alexie Torres

So we’re back on the inspiration of the week posts, and we wish to present to you guys some community figures as well as artists, activists, and public leaders that all mirror and represent the essence of what we are with Lethal Inspiration.

This week is Bronx Community activist Alexie Torres-Fleming.

Just as myself and Squeaksz she is a Bronx native who has a passion for social justice. As a child coming up in the 70′s in the Bronx, she was heavily affected by a “burning” environment. During this time the South Bronx was decimated by public policies that closed down police stations, fire departments, schools and hospitals. The idea was that “planned shrinkage” would spur urban renewal. No thought was given to the poorest of the poor who lived here. Building owners and store owners would burn down their own properties to collect the insurance. Young Alexie Torres was influenced to believe that her only hope for success was to escape the “burning hell” known as the Bronx at the time.

However, as she grew up and moved out of her neighborhood holding a corporate position in midtown Manhattan she realized that she didn’t find complete fulfillment without providing some kind of service to uprise the community. In 1992 she moved back into the Bronx and started by participating in her parish’s Community Action Group. In the process of volunteering at her parish’s community action group, she found herself one day leading an anti-drug prayer march in front of the crack houses in the neighborhood. Two days after this, a group of drug dealers from this area retaliated and broke into the church to commit vandalism, smash statues and they also started multiple fires. “Determined not to let the drug dealers win, a second rally mobilized 1,200 people and resulted in national press attention and the ultimate closing and rehabbing of those crack houses. Soon thereafter Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice (YMPJ) was founded as the first and only youth center in a neighborhood of more than 15,000 youth, 50% of who live below the poverty level.”(straight from the website)

“Guided by a prophetic faith, YMPJ’s purpose is to transform both the people and the physical infrastructure of blighted South Bronx neighborhoods and change the systems that negatively impact them.” This is the mission of YMPJ which was founded by Mrs. Torres and does it not sound similar to the purpose of Lethal Inspiration through clothing? YMPJ also has various programs including Arts for Activism, Education for Liberation, Wellness, and Community Justice Programs which provide venues of expression as well as providing information not common in these neighborhoods. Lethal Inspiration implements our social change through the expression of art and clothing. Evoking images of change and empowerment as well as providing information for urban youth.

I would like to take this time to thank Alexie Torres-Fleming for providing this service for our people. This is why she is this week’s Inspiration of the Week.
